MMA Customs Seizes N1.8bn Tramadol From India And Pakistan

The Murtala Muhammed Airport Command of Nigeria C inustoms Service has intercepted and recorded a total seizure of Twenty-Three (23) packages of pharmaceutical products including Twenty-Two (22) packages of Tramadol (225mg) and Twelve (12) packages of Tramadol (120mg) Tablets from India and Pakistan.

Speaking during the media briefing on the first quarter of 2023 activities of Murtala Muhammed Airport Command of Nigeria Customs Service, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, said the seizures recorded so far were based on intelligence-driven operations within the Airport with the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1,792,352,832,26.
In the spirit of inter-departmental cooperation, he said the illicit drug in the command’s custody has been scheduled for handling over to the Commander of Narcotics, Murtala Muhammed Airport Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Comptroller Yusuf believes that the inter-departmental cooperation will further strengthen their collaboration in safeguarding our youths from the use of harmful substance which could engender their lives and the environments.
His words: “We shall intensify more efforts in making our communities a safer place for all of us to live”.
Commenting on the revenue generation of the command, he said the command has generated a total sum of N21,362, 752, 676. 44; in the first quarter of 2023. Besides this, it is pertinent to note that in the corresponding period of 2022, the command generated N17, 513,457,869.20k, showing a progressive difference of the sum of N3, 849,294,807.22, depicting a 21.97% increase.
Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, stated on the occasion of media briefing that the revenue activities of the command compromises importation and exportation of legitimate goods under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS).
Commenting on the performance of the export trade, Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf said: ” the command during the period under review has recorded exportation of goods worth N100, 937,172,.26k, exported from Nigeria”.
According to him: ” these exported goods include non-commercial and commercial foods with a total weight of 653 Tonnes, and Free On Board (FOB) value of N4, 812,780,701. 69.
He was quoted in the speech as saying that, ” the command is working hard to promote export businesses to boost Forex earnings for Nigeria.
Speaking on the stakeholder’s engagement and corporate social responsibility, he noted that the command has maintained an open-door policy and has resolved a lot of issues of common interest with concerned stakeholders.
