The world will soon see better performing NLC – Adeyanju, Maritime workers’ president

President General, Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, has assured that the forthcoming election of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will usher in better labour movement in the country.
Comrade Adeyanju made the assertion recently in a chat with Seabreezenews online, adding that the array of contestants in the NLC election contest taking place February 7 – 8, 2023 in Abuja, speaks volume of their pedigree.
The MWUN boss, who is gunning for the post of 1st Deputy President, predicted that he and his principal, Comrade Joe Ajaero who is contesting for President, would emerge victorious “by the special grace of God”.
He described Comrade Ajaero as a dogged leader who had over the years paid his dues in Nigeria’s labour unionism; hence he remained the most qualified for the job.

“There’s no crime in having ambition. I going for the office of 1st Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. I’ve been cleared to contest for the position.
“By the special grace of God my next President, whom I’m going to be his 1st Deputy President is Comrade Joe Ajaero. This young man has actually paid his dues in labour unionism in the country. If you begin to count those who have sacrificed for labour and Nigerians, he’s number one and deserves that position.
Adeyanju added, “After the February 7 – 8, 2023 election, the whole world will see a better NLC performance in Nigeria. For instance, you know how the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria used to be over ten years ago and compare it what we are presently. You can see a big and positive transformation”.
On what the maritime stakeholders would expect from him if elected as the NLC number two man, Comrade Adeyanju assured that he was going to represent their interest positively at the Congress.

“Recall that before now, maritime workers, especially the dockworkers, were nothing in the sector, receiving peanut as salaries. That’s no more the case – where monkeys will be working and it will be the baboons that will be enjoying. That is no more!”
“That same transformation is what my colleagues and I would be bringing to the table once we’re elected to serve. Of course, Nigeria and Nigerians will not be left out of the picture because we’re going to serve their interest”.
Comrade Adeyanju will, in a couple of months, be serving out his second term of four years as the MWUN President General, where he has recorded a lot of achievements for the Union and maritime workers.
