Rivers Politics: Former Commission Throws Weight Behind Governor Sim

…assures Rivers people of the dividend of democracy

A Former Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning Rivers State, Dr. Reason Onya, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration, particularly in terms of implementation of people centered policies.

Dr. Onya, who is also a Political Economist and Developmentalist, stated this in an interview with newsmen.

“From my professional point of view as a political scientist and in particular one that major’s in Political Economy and Development Studies, Governor Siminalayi is doing extremely well in cognizance of the policies he is carrying out, continuation of the policies of the previous administration that is impacting on the political economy of the state and initiative of his own policies are perfectly ok”, he said.

On the legal and political crisis that has engulfed Governor Sim’s administration so far, the former commission expressed optimism that the people of Rivers will enjoy the dividends of democracy under the current, when all is resolved.

“My concern basically as a political economist and a developmentalist is to look at the policies that are impacting on the political economy and development of the state, to the general good of Rivers people and the electorate.

“it’s just that there is a little distraction on governance because of the matter in court. Like you know, there is no sovereign or sitting democratic head of government that will feel comfortable when he has matters going on in the court.
I think when the matter is over I think Rivers people should expect more developmental projects coming into the state”, Dr. Onya maintained.

Speaking further, the former commission, who hails from Ahoada West LGA of the state, stressed that the Ahoada West remains safe haven for the administration of Governor Sim, irrespective of the current political issues.

“In fairness, Ahoada West happens to be a safe haven for the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

That is the first local government that declared open support for him and ninety percent of it’s stakeholders were for Sim, and if you translate into electioneering victory, it still tells you that he will have nothing less than ninety percent of votes if election is to be conducted in Ahoada West for him.

“So in terms of the support coming from Ahoada West is massive, extremely colossal support from leaders of the LGA. All the former Assembly members exception of one, right from the days of Odili, as well as the Commissioners from Odili, Amaechi and even the immediate past administration are with him, till date. The legislative arm of the LGA are with him.

He assured that Ahoada West will continue to support Governor Sim’s administration.

“Ahoada West is a safe haven for him and we will continue to give him the massive support that is required. I, in person will go all out applying all the political mechanism to ensure his victory will always be guaranteed in Ahoada West LGA, we support his government”, the political Economist reiterated.

The former commission therefore urged the current administration to delve fully into the deliverance of political values and the dividends of democracy to the People of Rivers State, especially now that the politics is over, as he assured Rivers people that they will have no regrets or voting in Governor Sim Fubara.

“Politics is over we should go into the deliverance of political values to the people of Rivers State. The dividends of democracy is what we are now looking up to and I hope Rivers people will be all out for it after the matter in court.
I think by then, he will give it all the concentration, governance will be given all the attention because there would not be any distraction again.
And I can assure you and assure Rivers people, and assure Rivers Electorates, there won’t be any regrets of them voting him in”, Dr. Onya promised.
