VIOLENT ATTACKS: MAJAN Expresses disapproval on attacks on Ogun 1 Customs Officers

(Report by Ossy Onyenwezi )

The Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN) has expressed strong disapproval on the constant attacks on Customs Officers at their duty post.

The executive members of MAJAN released a press statement after watching the viral video at its secretariat at Apapa, Lagos.

The Association took time to watch and scrutinise the content of the viral video.

In the video, sporadic shooting could be heard, revealing violent attacks on officers who were carrying out their anti-smuggling function.

MAJAN Executives noticed that the smugglers were the first to attack while the officers shot in the air, in defence from the dreaded smugglers, who came in their large numbers to cause harm.

It was also observed that while the violent smugglers carried out their attacks on Officers, the officers only shot into the air in order to defend,, themselves and escape from the scene, showing a high level of professionalism and character.

MAJAN, as an Association, strongly condemned the ceaseless attacks on officers by rebels who do not want the progress of the nation, who are working against the federal government policies towards the growth of the nation and her economy.

We must know that Customs Officers are Nigerians and just like other citizens, they have a right to life. Their fundamental human rights must be respected at all times.

The association equally condemns the act of smuggling, which is doing damage to the economy and the overall well-being of Nigerians. As smugglers are seen as economy saboteurs.
