Cost of haulage reduces by over 60%
* As TTP lauds Nigerian Ports Authority on E-Call-Up system
As the cost of moving containers out of Apapa and TinCan Island ports in Lagos remains low despite the yuletide season, the management of Transit Truck Park (TTP) has attributed the stability in haulage price to the E-Call-Up system.
A top official of TTP, Mr Bolaji Akerele, pointed to the drop in haulage price as the outcome of the E-Call-Up system, introduced by Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), to tackle perennial traffic gridlock along ports access roads.
According to him, E-Call-Up system has recorded tremendous feats in addressing traffic crisis at Apapa, which culminated in the reduction of haulage cost by over 60 percent.
Our Correspendent gathered that
the average turnaround time for reefer trucks has reduced from two weeks to about two days at present.
Similarly, the average turnaround time for flat-bed and empty containers
has reduced from two weeks to about 3 days.
Also, the turnaround time for export containers has equally reduced from two weeks to about 76 hours, following the deployment of E-Call-Up technology.
More so, despite the fact that yuletide season is very close, the cost of conveying cargo from the seaports to other places in Lagos is still stable.
For instance, the cost of moving a container from Apapa port to a warehouse at Ikeja axis goes for between N400.000 and N500.000, when compared to the previous cost of between N1.2million and N1.5million.
